Proposals are hereby invited for the following: Provisions of Wetland and Terrestrial Rehabilitation - Gypsum Spill. Scope: 1. The contractor is to implement site rehabilitation in accordance with the Method Statement contained in the Wetland and Terrestrial Rehabilitation Plan; 2. Undertake initial site visit to plan the clean-up operation and rehabilitation; 3. Remove the dead vegetation from the site affected by the gypsum spill, transport and disposal at a designated and licensed hazardous landfill site; 4. The deposited gypsum ranges from 10 - 30cm in thickness, on average, which covers an estimated affected area of 21,556m² equates to between 2000m³ up to a maximum of 6 500m³ of gypsum (based on a rough calculation). Excavation and removal of the spilled gypsum from the contaminated environment, transport to and disposal at designated landfill site. It is estimated that a maximum of 6 500m³ of gypsum requires removal and safe disposal (based on a rough calculation); 5. Reinstate the soils and topography at the site. Where contaminated topsoil has been removed, this will need to be replaced; 6. The adding of lime to the contaminated site to raise the pH of the receiving soil/water to a more neutral status will no longer be required. This is due to the current status on site; 7. Re-vegetate the affected area using a combination of grass seeding and tree planting. Seeding with suitable grasses to take place over an estimated total area of 8, 415m². Tree planting required in the terrestrial thicket vegetation and fringing wetland areas. It is estimated that seventy-eight (78) trees are to be planted; 8. Take water quality samples of the affected wetland water before rehabilitation in 2 different points, one upstream and one downstream; 9. The Project Manager will need to be present at a post-rehabilitation monitoring inspection to confirm that rehabilitation has been implemented successfully and to specification by the project team.
