Re-advertisement: Quotations are hereby invited for the following: Consultant to Produce a Research Report on Renosterveld Restoration in Table Mountain National Park. Scope: SANParks seeks to contract a consultant to provide scientific support for renosterveld restoration activities planned for Table Mountain National Park"s Groote Schuur Estate. The key outputs will be: 1) A scoping study report, covering the following: a. A review of scientific literature relating to the following aspects: i. Plant traits associated with climate change vulnerability, with a focus on renosterveld; ii. Plant traits associated with restoration success; b. A review of relevant trait datasets potentially available for use in the study; c. Consultation with relevant experts and stakeholders; d. Proposed research hypotheses, study outline and experimental design. 2) Lists of plant species for use in restoration and the research study: As part of this process, the following sub-lists must be assembled: a. All species that may occur or potentially have occurred historically at the Groote Schuur Estate; b. Rare and threatened species; c. Climate change vulnerable species; d. Species that are known to be suitable for restoration at the site; e. Species for which seed and/or live material are available for rare, threatened and climate change vulnerable species; f. Species possessing specific selected traits. 3) Estimates of seed densities that will be required for the plots, and thus the total seed quantities required (minimum, ideal and for some species extra quantities). And backup options if some species do not yield seed or have high dud levels: a. Determine if cleaning is desirable, necessary or required; b. Stipulate requirements for estimating seed viability and tolerances if required; 4) Compilation of relevant trait data from available sources; 5) Supplementary trait data generated from Consultant"s expertise and consultation with other experts. It is expected that the time required for is 25 working days. Draft products should be shared for comment as follows: 1) Scoping report: within 15 working days after commencement of contract; 2) List of plant species: within 10 working days after commencement of contract; 3) Estimates of seed densities: within 25 working days after commencement of contract; 4) Compilation of available trait data: within 45 working days after commencement of contract; 5) Supplementary trait data: within 45 working days after commencement of contract.
